Elizabeth Ann (Hahn) Smith

Elizabeth A. “Bette” (Hahn) Smith, 85, of Sandusky, passed away early Friday afternoon, October 6, 2017, in Chesterwood Village, in West Chester, OH after a lengthy illness.

She was born on April 29, 1932, in Berlin Heights, OH, the daughter of Carl Jacob Hahn and Marian Lucille (Wasem) Hahn Hoffman.  Bette was a 1950 graduate of Berlin Heights High School and had attended The Ohio State University.  Bette worked with her husband, Jim, as the bookkeeper for the “Country Squire Shell” which they owned and operated for many years.

She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Bette is survived by two sons, James (Donna) Smith of Mansfield and David (Peggy) Smith of Camden, NY; six daughters, Sheryl Perdue of Cincinnati, Cynthia (Kevin) Kammer of Liberty Twp., Rebecca (Jeff) Smith of New London, NC, Jackie (Russ) Taylor of Liberty Twp., Laurie (Mark) Kathman of Florence, KY and Stephanie (Jim) Mapus of Sandusky; 23 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her step-father, Bradley Hoffman; her husband of 49 years, James F. “Jim” Smith, on February 16, 2003; her grandson, Tyler Mapus; a son-in-law, Larry Perdue; a sister and brother-in-law, Lorna and Archie Greene; a brother and sister-in-law, Lewis “Lou” and Sue Hahn; and two brother-in-laws, Carl Smith and William “Bill” Robertson.

Bette loved spending time with family and friends-- boating and fishing, annual family camping trips, enjoying their pool; refunding and playing the lottery.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 11, 2017, from 5-7 pm at the David F. Koch Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 520 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky.  On Thursday, October 12, 2017, a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 429 Central Avenue, Sandusky.  Fr. Joe Steinbauer officiating.  Burial will be in Perkins Cemetery, Perkins Township, OH.
