Elaine E. (Mapus) Wilhelm-Fitzthum, 94, of Sandusky, passed away peacefully early Tuesday evening, May 14, 2019, at the Portland Place, Sandusky.
Born on March 6, 1925, in Sandusky, OH the daughter of Durell Arlo and Evelyn (Dresser) Mapus. Elaine had worked for nearly 20 years, as Head of Housekeepers, at the Ramada Inn, before retiring. For 25 years, she had volunteered at the Senior Center and at the Ohio Veterans Home.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the AMVETS Post # 17 Ladies Auxiliary for over 30 years.
Elaine is survived by her husband, Eugene "Gene" Fitzthum, Sr.; her two daughters, Jane (Richard) Gangwisch of Sandusky, and Lisa Wilhelm of Las Vegas, NV; step-daughter, Colleen Wolf of Sandusky; four step-sons, Robert (Sue) Fitzthum of Wichita, KS, Eugene (Donna) Fitzthum, Jr., James (Diane) Fitzthum of Sandusky and Barry (Tana) Fitzthum of Amboy, WA; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a brother, Tom Mapus of Sandusky; and nieces and nephews
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Edwin J. Wilhelm (1962); a son, Mark Wilhelm (2000); a step-son, Brad Fitzthum (2013); a sister, Janice Russell; and a brother, Don Mapus.
It was her wishes to be cremated. A graveside service will be held for Elaine on Monday morning, May 20, 2019, at 10 am at Calvary Cemetery, Sandusky.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in her memory to Stein Hospice Service, Inc., 120 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, OH 44870.
