Harold Allen Schonhardt

Harold Allen Schonhardt went to be with his Lord and Savior on April 21, 2024. 

Harold A. or “Sonny” as everyone lovingly called him, was born on April 9, 1938, in Venice, Ohio, to Harold R. and Alice (Pfistner) Schonhardt.

Sonny graduated from Margaretta High School in 1956. He began his career at the United States Postal Service in 1963 in Venice, Ohio and ultimately retired as the Postmaster of Sandusky, Ohio in 1992. Additionally, Sonny minted successful secondary careers as the owner and operator of Schonhardt’s Grocery from 1962 until 1999 and the Coronado Motel from 1977 until 1995. Following these endeavors, Sonny thoroughly enjoyed driving delivery trucks for Toft’s Dairy and Corso’s until 2013 as well as volunteering at Serving our Seniors since 2013.  Sonny was a devoted member of Trinity Lutheran Church for over 30 years and formerly served as the President and Treasurer of the Sandusky Bay Kiwanis. He was also a former member of the Sandusky Elks Lodge.

Sonny was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved partner and fiancée, Patricia J. “Patty" Lang, and his sister, Agnus Harkness. He is survived by his sister Alice Kuns (Richard) of Castalia, Ohio. Sonny had an unmistakable love for his two children: Vickie Horsley (LaRue) of Lucasville, Ohio and Scott Schonhardt of Mansfield, Ohio. He also leaves behind his three beloved grandchildren: Richard Schnuerer (Ann), Katherine Schonhardt, and Charles Schonhardt, along with three great-grandchildren (Lee Starr Schnuerer, Harold James Schnuerer, and Edward White Schnuerer).

His family is incredibly grateful for the loving care and friendship of Angie Schaffer.

Visitation will be held on Friday, April 26, 2024, from 4 until 7pm at the David F. Koch Funeral and Cremation Services, 520 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky, OH.  A funeral service will be held on Saturday morning, April 27, 2024, at 10am at Trinity Lutheran Church, 502 Bardshar Road, Sandusky.  Rev. Jennifer A. Herrmann officiating. Burial will be in Venice Cemetery, Margaretta Twp., OH.
