Helen DeCaro, 98, of Sandusky, passed away early Friday morning, April 13, 2012, at the Providence Care Center, Sandusky, after a brief illness.
Born on April 1, 1914 in Wooster, OH the daughter of the late Santo and Emilia (Morretti) Grande. Mrs. DeCaro had worked at Apex and later at Sears and Roebuck as a sales clerk for many years. She is a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, where she was quite involved in cooking at the different church functions throughout the years, member of the Italian-American Beneficial Club Ladies Auxiliary and the Daughters of Isabelle. She loved spending time with her family and grandchildren, as well as, cooking and baking for them.
She is survived by her son, C. Mike (Marlene) DeCaro of Huron; daughter, Pat (Al) Boesch of St. Petersburg, FL; four grandchildren, Michelle (Dan) Kaman, Melissa (Mike) Johnson, Michael (Kristen) DeCaro, Kristopher (Rachael) Boesch; six great-grandchildren, Dan, Kayle, Ian, Koy, Morgan, Aidan; several nieces and nephews; brother-in-law, Eldridge (Mary) DeCaro; sister-in-laws, Ann Barone, Paula (Clyde) Cunningham, Barbara Schwartz.
Besides her parent, she also was preceded in death by her husband, Charles I. "Spagette" DeCaro on August 20, 2005; grandson, Michael Boesch; three sisters, Mary Amicarelli, Edith Carafelli, Jean Corder; brother, Dominic Grande.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 17, 2012, from 4-7 pm in The Gathering Space of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 510 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky, where a prayer service will be held at 7 pm that evening. Prayers will be recited Wednesday morning, April 18, 2012, at 9:30 am in The Gathering Space followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in the Church. Fr. Marty Nassr officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Sandusky.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 510 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky, OH 44870 or to Stein Hospice Service, Inc., 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, OH 44870.
