James J. Wilson, Sr., 64, of Sandusky, passed away early Sunday morning, April 8, 2012, in the Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky.
Born on December 13, 1947 in Big Stone Gap, VA the son of the late Claude A. and Minnie Ruth (Phipps) Wilson. He had served in the U.S. Army, as a proud member of the 1st Calvary Division in Vietnam, he was a recipient of the Purple Heart. After serving four years he went on and served in the Ohio National Guard for 14 years.
Jim was an avid reader and bowler. He also was a recipient of a Double Lung Transplant on May 1, 2010. Jim is a member of the Sandusky Church of the Nazarene, Senior Men Fellowship, life member of the V.F.W. Post # 2529 and the AMVETS Post # 17, and a member of the American Legion Post # 83.
He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Karen S. (Elder) Wilson, whom he married on July 5, 1980; their family, Joe (Mindy) Wilson of Johnson, KS, Mike (Jen) Wilson of Syracuse, KS, Melissa (Anthony) Miller of Lorain, Samantha Wilson, Wendy (Steve) Ross both of Toledo, James (Melanie) Wilson, Jr. of Columbus, U.S. Army Sgt. Sarah (Staff Sgt. Bryon) Kelsey of Ft. Campbell, KY; 19 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild; brothers, Claude, Jr. and Daniel; sisters, Shirley and Michelle; and other relatives..
Besides his parents, he also was preceded in death by a son, Jackson Wilson; 2 brothers; 3 sisters.
At his request no visitation will be held and cremation will take place. At his request, inurnment will be held at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA.
The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to the Cleveland Clinic Lung Transplant Program, "Breath of Life", c/o Dr. Marie Budev, 9500 Euclid Avenue, Cleveland, OH 44195.
